Four-Point Play
Here’s the Celtics Four-Point Play to appear every Wednesday (1 day late today…) on Sports of Boston. This is where I will compile four (4) small and related Celtics facts and offer my own spin on a variety of Celtics news stories. The general format will be a short blurb about the story first, then my reaction tabbed underneath it.
1. Tonight’s Sonics-Celtics game will feature two teams involved in a big preseason trade. As you already know, the C’s shipped old friends Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak, and the No. 5 pick (Jeff Green) for Ray Allen and the Sonics’ 2nd-round pick (Glen “Big Baby” Davis).
- This is the first of two meetings between the teams. Before this game, the Sonics announced they will present a video and plaque for Ray Allen, thanking him for his 4+ years of service. I’m sure Ray is just glad to be out of there.
- It will be funny to see Delonte and Wally in different uniforms, but at least they’re still kind of green.
2. Delonte West will be in the lineup tonight despite what the Boston Globe reports as “a lingering right foot plantar fasciitis injury.” West of course played for the Celtics for the previous three seasons.
- He’s a gamer. Always was and always will be. He wouldn’t miss his first crack against his former team for anything, even a lingering foot injury. It’s kind of sad West never came close to winning anything with the Celtics and now he’s doomed with a franchise possibly on the move. At least they have Kevin Durant.
3. Kevin Garnett is still the leading vote-getter in the NBA All-Star Balloting, just ahead of Cavs superstar LeBron James. Garnett leads all players with 1,186,690 votes.
- KG is definitely being helped by passion of Boston sports fans, but he certainly deserves an all-star start. It’d be something if KG, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen were all on the team (which I think they will be). A few years back, the Pistons had Rip Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, and Ben Wallace all on the team, which was pretty cool to watch. I’d love to see the Big Three on the team.
4. The Celtics are in the middle of a West Coast trip that includes four games in five days.
- I’d love to know who the nasty schedule-maker is out there. This west coast trip would normally be a brutal 4-games-in-5-days-trip. Nowadays it’s not brutal, the Celtics are making it look like a cake walk. Tonight should be an easy win against the Sonics.
- The next two games after that on the 29th and 30th are against the Jazz and Lakers on the road. They should be a lot tougher contests, and definitely true tests for the team. Taking 3 of 4 would be a great accomplishment on this part of the road trip.
