Francona Signs on for Three More Seasons

The Red Sox and manager Terry Francona have finally agreed on a contract extension which will keep Tito as the Sox manager until 2011. The deal also has two options for 2012 and 2013.

From this morning’s press release:

“On behalf of John Henry, Tom Werner, Larry Lucchino, and the Red Sox organization, I am very pleased to make this announcement,” GM Theo Epstein said in the release. “Terry Francona has done an outstanding job in managing the Red Sox over the last four seasons. This is demonstrated not only in the three playoff appearances and two World Series victories but also in the way in which he handles the demands of managing in Boston on a day-to-day basis, both on and off the field. It also represents a strong and sincere commitment by our ownership.”

  1. I think the Red Sox made a great move here. Its about time they got this deal done. This morning on WEEI’s Dale & Holley, they also expressed their appriciation towards the Red Sox organization in signing Tito. Later in the show, they had Tito LIVE on air to talk about the Sox workouts and his extension. His contract is though 2011 with a club option for 2012-2013. He’s said to make between $3-$3.5 Mil. Tito’s happy to have this over with and excited to be here for the long run. Side Note: Bruce Hurst is now part of the Sox Organization once again as a Player Developmental Insructor.
