He did it many years while playing for the Cleveland Indians. He’s done it for many years while with the Boston Red Sox. Manny Ramirez did it again last night, homering in the top of the ninth off terrible closer Joe Borowski. Dustin Pedroia had tied the game at 4-4 after a sacrifice fly. Manny put the game away with a 2-run shot and the Sox won 6-4.
David Ortiz made his return to the lineup and finished 2-5. Ortiz got a key two-out hit to set up Manny. Much to the chagrin of Sports of Boston’s Dave, Ortiz raised his batting average over .100 and ended an 0-17 slump. Maybe, just maybe…he’s about to bounce out of his tough stretch.
Jon Lester started and again was unreliable, throwing 97 pitches in just 4 1/3 innings. He allowed four runs (all earned) on five hits and five walks, to go along with three strikeouts. No control and too many pitches for Mr. Lester again. Julian Tavarez came out of the bullpen and kept the Sox in the game with 2 2/3 scorless and walkless innings.
Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his fifth save and the Sox were winners of their third straight game. Boston now sits at 8-6 on the season.
