Newest US Citizen: David Ortiz

Kennedy Library, in Boston, moments after taking the oath of citizenship along with 220 other immigrants during naturalization ceremonies, Wednesday, June 11, 2008. We all know that David Ortiz has been a citizen of Red Sox Nation for a while but today he also became a citizen of the United States.

Ortiz, filled with excitement, shared his thoughts on the important moment:

“It’s a great country. I’m proud to be here,” said Ortiz, who wore a pinstriped suit and his signature dark sunglasses. He said he was eager “to be part of the American family.”

Larry Lucchino, who was in attendance at the ceremony, had nothing but good things to say about Big Papi:

“He is the personification of what a great citizen should be. He’s the heart and soul of Red Sox Nation.”

Congrats to Ortiz and his family.
