The Red Sox-Yankees rivalry got a little less interesting, with the Yanks placing 22-year-old Joba Chamberlain on the 15-day disabled list with rotator cuff tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. The Yankees will call up Ian Kennedy in Chamberlain’s place.
The Yankees said that Joba should rest his shoulder for 10 days before beginning a throwing program. They made their decision based on a diagnosis from Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday.
You may remember a heated rivalry developing between Chamberlain and Kevin Youkilis…(with Joba throwing at Youk’s head on numerous occasions). The Yanks and Sox are scheduled to face each other August 26-28. There is no timetable for Joba’s return to the majors, so there’s no way to know if he can be back in time for that series.
