After a workout Tuesday, J.D. Drew declared himself 100% ready to play in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Angels Wednesday night. Drew has been suffering from a bulging disc in his back, and played only two games in all of September.
Mike Lowell, meanwhile, is still 50-50 to start at third base for the Red Sox. He said his hip problem feels fine while at the plate, but playing in the field is what complicates things. Lowell, though, feels confident he should be able to go.
“I’m going to try to do everything normal, and the writing will be on the wall,” Lowell said before taking the field. “I’ll either keel over because it really hurts or I won’t. I don’t think there will be any mystery.”
The Herald’s John Tomase was under the impression that Lowell will be in the lineup no matter what in Game 1, though it’s hard to trust Tomase’s interpretation of things since his report about the Pats Spygate tactics before the Super Bowl (zing!).
Sox ace Josh Beckett took the field for workouts as well, and didn’t report any setbacks. He’s slated to start in Game 3.
